Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to everyone! Hope everyone was safe and hope you all make the best out of this year. Health and prosperity to all! I’m thinking most of you had a good time celebrating the New Year by dancing and going crazy. I know we did.
Spring Training is getting closer, and the Fish have been making some noise. We traded for Big Z (Carlos Zambrano) and I could not be happier. I think Carlos deserves a fresh start with a new team and I think in the long run both teams are going to benefit from this trade. I have faith in Carlos and I respect him as a person. He starts with a clean slate for me. Plus, I doubt I will get in his face anyways … the guys is HUGE (haha). I heard we also re-signed Greg Dobbs, who I hear is a great guy to have coming off the bench. Let’s hope we are all set, and get ready to have some fun.
I have been watching a lot of NBA and Bulls games down here in Venezuela. The Bulls are looking good so far. That combined with the start of the NFL Playoffs makes it an exciting time to be a sports fan. I am also watching my Tiburones team compete here in Venezuela in the round robin. I hope they go all the way and the kids get their chance to keep playing.
I will be back in Chicago later this month for my birthday and you can probably find me at the United Center either watching the Blackhawks or Bulls. Yes, I like watching hockey, but only live, since on the couch I can’t keep track of the puck. I heard it’s been getting colder in Chicago, but I like it. Hopefully I get to see some snow.
On another note, my family and I lost a member of our family a couple of days ago, and it hurts us deeply. Just remember: If you love someone, make sure you tell them every day. May he rest in peace.
Make 2012 count! I can’t remember the last time I was this pumped up for a season. It should be great!
Happy New Year from the Guillen family.
Wedding vows, renewed
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I had a great time down in Panama and actually had a chance to do something that I had only done once before — I renewed my vows. After 28 years of being married, I decided it was time. I did it all on my own; my wife had no clue. See, I guess I can be romantic (haha). I guess since we didn’t get divorced after 72 days the first time around (72 days seems kinda fast) I think we will make it this time too. I just want to say thank you to my wife, Ibis, and my family for sticking with me, even though some of them have no choice (haha). No, but seriously that’s my real team no matter what!
We had some turkey on Thanksgiving Day down here in Panama. We actually are not staying in Panama City; we are at the Royalton Panama Beach Resort in Playa Blanca. I have one word to describe this place: Wow!
I have been able to keep up with some news from back in the states. The NBA is back, and I can’t wait to watch a couple games before I head down to Venezuela.
I will be keeping in touch with everyone. Hopefully, we have some good news coming with the Marlins and we pick up a few guys. I will talk to you guys before the weekend and Andruw Jones’ charity event. Panama has really been awesome to us!
Here’s hoping I last another 28 years … I know I will do my best!
Back in Miami and excited for the new logo!
I’m finally back in the United States, but don’t worry I had my iPad with me the entire time so I was able to see everything that has been going on. There are a lot of free agents out there and a couple of trades and signings already. All the news makes for a good read. It’s always fun to see how teams can re-tool and do the best they can to put a team together. I think as a manager — and as a fan — that’s fun to see.
I’m in Miami right now. I need to start looking for a place down here; hopefully somewhere close to the ballpark. I will keep you guys posted on how it goes. I’m very excited for the new Marlins logo that we will all get to see on Friday. I have heard they have some awesome things planned so this week should be a lot of fun. I haven’t seen the logo, so I’m looking forward to it!
I want to say a big thank you to the Pepsi crew and team in Venezuela for doing a great job working quickly on the new commercial we have coming out. It was great working with everyone, especially Carlos Zambrano and Bobby Abreu. Personally, I’m just glad Bobby cut his toenails for the shoot so that nobody got hurt. Those things were deadly weapons a couple of years ago (hahaha).
Seriously, what’s up with the NBA lockout? I was looking forward to seeing the Bulls this year. I’m headed back to Chicago soon and hope I can see some games this year. Figure it out!
I will be watching Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3 this Saturday, as I would advise everyone to. It should be a good fight.
OK, everyone, take care. I wish I could give you all a sneak peek of the new logo. Who knows? Maybe I will be able to. Hopefully we all look good in them, but I suspect that if we win we will look awesome no matter what we are wearing.
I have so many lineups running through my head
What’s up, people?! I wanted to write a quick blog to let everyone know how it’s going down
here in Arizona. Now that all the
guys are here, it’s been really awesome. I love my job! From what I
have seen it really looks like everyone is here ready to work. It’s been awesome just seeing the
positive attitudes everyone has come to camp with.
I have a lot of ideas going through my head and have been
playing around with so many lineups for months now. In reality, I hope I can just stick to one because that means
everyone is healthy and it makes my job a lot easier. Same thing goes for the bullpen and the starting staff. I
really enjoy watching things come together. It has been very good to see Jake Peavy progress forward; I hope
he can get healthy and really help us out this year.
As for what else I have been doing? If you follow me on Twitter, you know I had a great time watching the NBA All-Star Game festivities Saturday night. I love my man Charles
Barkley … always entertaining!
Make sure you keep your questions coming in the “Ask Ozzie!”
part of my website. I love reading
them, and I know a lot of people have been asking about the lineup. This is what spring is for. We will
sort everything out and put the best lineup on the field.
Who is coming to see us in Spring Training this year??
